Interdisciplinary B.S. Degree in Work and Professional Studies:

In 2002, Old Dominion University through its Interdisciplinary Studies program initiated a bachelor's degree emphasis called WORK AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES (WPS). (http://www.odu.edu/al/wps/ This degree program uses the experience of work and our working lives as the focus of study. The Old Dominion University Center for the Study of Work (CSW) provides an opportunity to build from, support and augment this undergraduate degree program.

Through course work in a variety of disciplines students:

  • Learn to understand and appreciate their own and the working lives and the working lives of others.
  • Interact with students with a variety of workplace experiences, representing the diversity of a multi-generational workplace.
  • They build on existing workplace skills and knowledge, integrating prior experiences with new learning and enhancing their ability to contribute and adapt more quickly to the rapidly changing work environment.
  • Finally they document and reflect on their learning and work experiences in an on-going e-portfolio development project to be used as a lifelong education and career tool.
